Trade shows move quickly, and the most useful exhibition photography is never just about taking a few wide shots of a stand. It is about capturing how a brand shows up, how the team interacts with visitors, and how the stand works in the wider context of a busy live event. As an exhibition photographer at the NEC Birmingham, I focus on capturing not just the stand itself, but how brands connect with people in a live environment.

I was hired by DACI to photograph their presence at Solar & Storage Live at the NEC Birmingham, capturing a gallery of images that showed the stand design, the team on stand, the quality of visitor interaction and the overall feel of the event.

This kind of exhibition photography at the NEC Birmingham is valuable because it gives exhibitors far more than a simple visual record of the day. Done well, it creates a set of images that can be used long after the event has finished, across websites, sales materials, LinkedIn, marketing campaigns and future exhibitor promotion.

What good exhibition photography at the NEC should capture

At large trade shows like this, the strongest photography usually combines a few different things:

  • the full visual presence of the stand

  • the people behind the brand

  • real conversations with visitors

  • product or display details that help explain the offer

  • the wider atmosphere of the show itself

For DACI, that meant photographing not just the stand as a structure, but the way it worked as a space, how it welcomed people in, how the team interacted with visitors, and how the brand presented itself in a live exhibition environment.

Capturing DACI’s stand design and brand presence

One of the first priorities was to capture the stand clearly and professionally, showing DACI’s branding, layout and visual presence on the show floor.

This is an important part of exhibition photography because it gives exhibitors a bank of strong images they can use to show how they presented their business at the event. It is especially useful for future exhibitor marketing, sponsor decks, websites and social content.

The value of real visitor interaction

The most commercially useful exhibition images are often the ones that show genuine engagement.

Rather than relying only on empty stand shots, I always look to capture real interactions between exhibitors and visitors, conversations, introductions, demonstrations and the small moments that show a stand working as it should.

These images help businesses communicate more than appearance. They show energy, relevance and the kind of engagement that makes exhibiting worthwhile.

Exhibition photography that works beyond the event

A strong exhibition gallery should still be useful long after the show ends.

For exhibitors, that often means images that can be reused for:

  • websites

  • LinkedIn and social media

  • sales and bid documents

  • future event promotion

  • internal presentations

  • exhibitor applications for future shows

That is why my approach is always to photograph the event in a way that feels commercially useful, not just visually attractive.

From the NEC Birmingham to other major exhibition venues

The NEC Birmingham remains one of the UK’s key exhibition venues, and the same approach to stand photography, team coverage and visitor interaction applies equally well at other major trade show venues, including ExCeL London.

For exhibitors attending multiple events across the year, consistent, high-quality photography can help build a much stronger visual record of their presence from one show to the next.
