Charity Event Photography for Whizz Kidz at PGL

I was commissioned by Whizz Kidz to photograph a Kidz Max activity day at PGL Caythorpe Court near Grantham.

The event welcomed around 18 families and gave young wheelchair users aged 8 to 25 the opportunity to try accessible activities, meet other young people and enjoy the experience with their families.

The charity event photography brief focused on energy, emotion and connection. Whizz Kidz and PGL wanted natural photographs showing laughter, excitement, nerves, determination and celebration, together with wider images that established the setting and scale of the day.

Photographing the Kidz Max experience

The programme included laser tag, rifle shooting, rope-based challenges, wheelchair skills and creative activities.

I moved between the different parts of the centre, combining energetic action photographs with family interactions, quieter moments of concentration and wider views of the activities.

It was important that the photography felt relaxed. Some of the children and young people could find unfamiliar faces and cameras overwhelming, so I allowed everyone time to become comfortable with me before moving closer.

That approach helped me capture genuine expressions and connections without interrupting the experience taking place around me.

Showing accessibility naturally

Accessibility was an integral part of the day. I photographed PGL instructors preparing equipment, supporting participants and making activities accessible, while keeping each young person’s enjoyment and personality at the centre of the photographs.

The resulting images show encouragement between families, patient support from staff, shared celebrations and the confidence that grew as participants tried something new.

Close action photographs were balanced with quieter moments and wider environmental images. The gallery shows both the detail and scale of Kidz Max, from concentration around the craft table to laughter during laser tag and the height of the rope course.

Consent and sensitive photography

Whizz Kidz managed photography consent through coloured wristbands, with green identifying participants who could be photographed. The team briefed me before coverage began, and I worked within those permissions throughout the event.

I also considered how each photograph might be used after the day. The final selection focused on positive, respectful images that families would feel comfortable seeing and that the charity could use with confidence.

A versatile gallery for Whizz Kidz

The completed gallery combined action, candid portraits, family interaction, volunteers, PGL staff, environmental photographs and a relaxed team portrait.

A mixture of horizontal and vertical images gave Whizz Kidz useful content for its website, social media, press activity, reports and future communications.
